The nearest big town with full services is Sourdeval, which is 3 km north. Although relatively a small town, it is known as a Village of Flowers in summertime and has all services. Here you can find most things you require, including a patisserie and bread shops, a butcher, several bars, newsagents, post office, ATM terminals with a Credit Agricole bank, pizza shop, small cafes, and 2 supermarkets and garages.
There is a Farmers Market on Tuesdays in town with a wide variety of produce and local fare and other markets every day of the week in nearby towns. Choice of dining from fine authentic French Cuisine at the Moulin du Auberge (watermill.) through modern eateries in town centres to traditional fare at local restaurants.
Mortain is located south about 3 klm, and has spectacular views over the countryside, including 2 famous waterfalls. (Petite and Grande Cascades) Avranche is only 45 mins away and has some wonderful historical buildings and great views over the valley and Bay of Mont St Michel. The start of the Cherbourg Peninsula has a wide choice of beaches only a short drive away. Mont St Michel is a comfortable hours drive and a spectacular site not to be missed.
Caen and the Bayeaux Tapestry are 60 mins in a northern direction. Vire has a great historic monument at it centre and a castle ruin close to the river. Mortain has a War Memorial, and an old church with fantastic panoramic views over the surrounding valley. There are numerous War memorials, battlefields and fronts in this area to satisfy the Historical touris. Vire also has bars, pizzerias and creperies, cinemas and a museum.
